Margarita

Margarita!  This was filmed on another Tipsy Tuesday, so i’m not the only one that will attest to the fact that Robert mixed up one of the best margaritas that i have ever had.  Though i think the debate of salt, no salt may wage on, this particularly perfect margarita needs nothing but someone to consume it in its entirety.  What Robert does not go into too much detail is with the sour mix, which he made from scratch hand squeezing some two bags of lemons to make the perfect mix.  It all goes to show you that quality ingredients and attention to detail goes a long way in making more then exceptional cocktails.

1 oz lime juice
2 oz sour mix
1 oz Cointreau
2 oz Tequila ( El Jimador)

Mai Tai

Mai Tai!  Mai Tai! What is so cool about having a cocktail blog?   Well, its not just that Robert can make some kick ass drinks, which he does, it is the day after when we realize we still have all the ingredents staring at us, daring us to make another.  We play back Robert mixing the drinks on the video and follow along and viola!! Mai Tai! So if the videos aren’t helping you mix drinks they sure are helping us, because over the next couple of days after filming this episode Dalisa and I would have the same thought when we look at each other.  Mai Tai? MAI TAI!

The Metropolitan

Robert’s version of the Metropolitan comes in as a little tasty sibling to the cosmo.  I didn’t taste this one, so i’ll qoute Dalisa saying that this cocktail is “berry sassy” .   Just watch the video.

3/4 oz lime juice
1/2 once rock candy syrup
3/4 oz Cointreau
2 oz Absolut Kurant
cranberry juice

The Cosmopolitan

Tipsy Tuesdays. Dalisa and I recently started Tipsy Tuesdays so that we could invite freinds over for cocktails and share some of the fun while we film DrinksByRobert.   Enjoy the video and watch the end and you’ll see that Dalisa and I don’t live in a traditional place, nor are our cocktail parties all that normal.

Back to the Cosmo. Well, being the dutiful husband that I am, I did watch the new Sex in the City movie with my wife.  And all I can say is those damn women stopped drinking the Cosmos’ because of some superficial reason just before we filmed this (what timing).  Well, if they had tried Robert’s version then I’m sure they would still be drinking them, and if you have a few of them yourself you won’t think the movie sucked too much.   So there you go…. drinking Robert’s cosmos’ will make movies suck less.

3/4 oz lime juice
2 oz kettle one citroen
1 oz cointreau
splash of cranberry juice

The Negroni

The Negroni, an aperitif, is one of those drinks for the experienced palate.  For me…. the easiest way to explain the Negroni to people is: if you like Campari, you’ll like the Negroni.   I do not like Campari, but it sure is cool to light an orange on fire!

1 1/4oz gin
1 1/4oz sweet vermouth
1 1/4oz Campari
garnish with a burnt orange peel

Beside the Car

Ok this is Robert’s very own variant on the already yummy Sidecar which we posted last week.  My opinion, this one is far smoother and oh so easy to drink.  If you like Sidecars you will fall in love with this one.

sugar rimmed coctail glass
3/4 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz cointreau
1/2 cognac
2 oz Nevan (vanilla cognac)

The Sidecar

This cocktail classic is as tasty as it looks and just like some of the others on this blog it is pretty effective at raising you blood alcohol beyond its legal limit all to fast… So hide your keys from yourself and have fun.  Also if you watch the video it is painfully obvious that we took several takes to get it right, sampling each take.   We will need more practice.

Cocktail glass rimmed with sugar
3/4oz lemon juice
1 1/4oz Cointreau
2oz Cognac

French 75

Here at altF the French 75 is the cocktail of choice.  If you like champagne and you like gin, then this drink would be the devil coming for your soul.  Don’t let its simple and pretty appearance deceive you, this is a serious drink.   One will get you buzzed, two will destroy all inhibitions, and by third you will be proposing to the lamp post outside.  Be careful with this one, it is after all named after a weapon.

cheers,
.john michael cooper.

1/2 oz. lemon juice
splash of rock candy syrup (or sugar)
1 1/2 oz. gin
top up with your favorite champagne
